HSV-1

Cut off:
Standard settings:

IgM 10%
IgG 20%

Freely adjustable as required.

Antigen:
Purified complete HSV-1 antigen.

The following bands are characterized:

130 kD glycoprotein C 1 (gpC 1) 75 kD glycoprotein C 2 (gpC 2)
65 kD 40 kD

top
Specificity:

130 kD Glycoprotein C 1

This protein is thought to be a relatively specific marker of HSV-1 infections. Antibodies are produced approximately 7 to 14 days after the start of the infection. In some cases, cross-reactions with HSV-2 can be observed.
table

75 kD Glycoprotein C 2

Marker of HSV infections, is considered to be specific.

40 kD und 65 kD

These proteins react with herpes-specific antibodies, which appear as the first response to a Herpes infection. These antibodies are cross-reactive and are the first immunoresponse to both HSV-1 and HSV-2 infections.
table

Interpretation:

The results are positive if the highly specific band 130 kD (gpC 1) is marked.
The IgM response to HSV-1 is much weaker, and the weaker bands here must also be taken into consideration.

Further assistance in interpretation:
IgM antibodies against 40 kD and 65 kD are produced approximately between the 3rd and 7th day of the infection, and IgG antibodies after about the 7th - 10th day. These antibodies are only proof of an infection with Herpes. The antibodies against the highly molecular glycoproteins are only produced after the 7th – 14th day, and only then is it possible to differentiate between the two Herpes types.
