HSV-2

Cut off:
Standard settings:

IgM 10%
IgG 20%

Freely adjustable as required.

Antigen:
HSV-2 complete antigen (purified).

The following bands are characterised:

92 kD glycoprotein G 2 (gpG 2) 40 kD
65 kD

top
Specificity:

92 kD Glycoprotein G 2 (gpG 2)

The glycoprotein G2 is the only highly specific marker of an HSV-2 infection. The antibodies against this protein are produced after approx. 7 - 14 days. No cross-reactions have been reported between this protein and other Herpes viruses. The detection of antibodies against this protein is proof of contact with the HSV-2 pathogen.

40 kD und 65 kD

These proteins react to Herpes-specific antibodies, which appear as the first response during a Herpes infection. These antibodies are cross-reactive and are the first immunoresponse to both HSV-1 and HSV-2 infections.
table

Interpretation:

The IgG and IgM results for HSV-2 are positive if the highly specific gpG2 band is clearly marked. The IgM and IgA response is usually weaker and the weaker bands here must also be taken into consideration.

Further assistance in interpretation:
IgM antibodies against 40 kD and 65 kD are produced approximately between the 3rd and 7th day of the infection, IgG antibodies after about the 7th- 10th day. These antibodies are only proof of an infection with Herpes. The antibodies against the highly molecular glycoprotein G2 are not produced until after the 7th – 14th day, and only then is it possible to differentiate between the two Herpes types.
