| AMA
M2: Mitochondrial antibodies are directed against proteins of the inner and outer mitochondrial membrane. They are a highly sensitive and specific marker of primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC). |

| LKM: The antibodies are directed against the so-called liver-kidney-microsomal antigen, the microsomal antigen from liver and kidney. They are used as a marker of autoimmune chronic active hepatitis. |
|||||||||
| LP: The antibodies are directed against the liver pancreas antigen and appear in approx. 25 % of patients suffering from chronic active hepatitis. Anti-LP antibodies are also known as anti-SLA. |

| Comments:
In samples which are M2 positive, antibodies against the 74 kD band must be marked as the main band. The other bands (characterized as M2) can only be interpreted as M2 subtypes if the 74kD band is apparent. Additional bands which appear at 54 kD and 52 kD lie very close to the LP and LKM band pattern. As M2 antibodies never appear simultaneously with anti-LP or anti-LKM, these cannot be confused. A nonspecific reaction can occur near the 74 kD band. |
